5 Day Trips from Nea Epidavros

Nea Epidavros sits on one of the quietest stretches of the Argolida coast, yet some of Greece's best-known sights are a short drive away. Here are five day trips our guests love, each easy to fit between a slow breakfast and a sunset swim.
1. The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus
Built in the 4th century BC, the theatre is famous for its acoustics: a coin dropped on the stage can be heard from the top row. In summer it hosts performances of ancient drama during the Athens & Epidaurus Festival.
Tip: arrive early in the morning to explore the sanctuary of Asklepios before the tour buses.
2. Nafplio
The first capital of modern Greece, with Venetian streets, the Bourtzi castle in the harbour and the Palamidi fortress above the town. Climb the steps to Palamidi for the view, then reward yourself with ice cream on Syntagma Square.
3. The Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus
Smaller and far less known, this theatre sits close to the sea at Palaia Epidavros. Concerts are held here on summer evenings during the Musical July festival.
4. Ancient Mycenae
Walk through the Lion Gate into the kingdom of Agamemnon, then visit the Treasury of Atreus, a vast beehive tomb that has stood for over 3,000 years.
5. A lazy beach day
Not every day needs a plan. Pack a towel and spend the afternoon at one of the small pebble coves near the estate, then head back for a dip in the pool.
Planning your days
- Rent a car: it is the easiest way to reach every site on this list.
- Bring water and a hat. Archaeological sites have little shade.
- Ask us at check-in for opening hours and our favourite tavernas on the way.
